A STRONGER VOICE FOR MAPLETON AND RURAL ONTARIO

I am honoured to have been elected with the confidence of rural municipal leaders across Ontario as Rural Caucus Director to the Board of the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO), and to serve on the Rural Ontario Municipal Association (ROMA) Board. These roles provide an opportunity to bring Mapleton’s perspective to provincial discussions while listening to and learning from rural communities across Ontario.

Rural municipalities face unique challenges and the decisions made at Queen’s Park have a direct impact on our communities. While approximately 17% of Ontario’s population lives in rural communities, rural municipalities are responsible for roughly 31% of the province’s roads and bridges. At the same time, infrastructure costs have increased dramatically, with some municipalities experiencing increases of up to 86% over the past six years.

Access to healthcare is another critical rural issue. Earlier this year, it was estimated that approximately 525,000 rural Ontarians were living without a family doctor.

These numbers tell an important story: rural Ontario needs a strong voice at the table.

As Mayor, I would bring the experience, relationships and understanding I have developed through municipal government, AMO and ROMA to continue advocating for Mapleton at the provincial level. I believe our community deserves a leader who will not only listen to residents at home, but will also take their concerns to the tables where decisions are being made.

Mapleton deserves a strong voice. I am ready to be that voice.
